Selon l'hypothèse centrale de cet article, les identifications religieuses des jeunes ne peuvent être appréhendées qu'au travers d'une analyse de leurs parcours familiaux, scolaires et professionnels. C'est dans les trajectoires d'accès aux places et positions sociales
des enfants des classes populaires que s'enracinent les motivations, formes et contenus des
religiosités musulmanes et non dans l'appartenance à une communauté musulmane réifiée.
Les jeunes des milieux populaires ne parviennent que difficilement à accéder aux statuts scolaires et professionnels auxquels ils aspirent. Les religiosités masculines s'ancrent dans la
volonté des garçons de se requalifier en réaction aux verdicts familiaux et institutionnels et

Failure at school and research of self-worth through Islam.
An ethnographic investigation in an average town
The central hypothesis of this paper is that youth religious identifications can only
be treated through an analysis of their family, scholar and professional curriculum. It
is in the trajectories of social positions access of children from working classes that
the motivations, forms and constraints of Muslim religiosities put settle and not in
the belonging to a reified Muslim community. Boys wish to reach another image of
them than the one sent to them by the institutional actors or the parental judgments.
Islam in the young people's context is not built according to the interests of the Muslim countries but is settled in a society that is struggling to create space to the
