L'invention du disque dur par IBM, l'explosion de la première bombe à hydrogène sur l'atoll de Bikini, la mise en route de la pile atomique de Marcoule n'ont-ils pas plus marqué l'avenir que les événements politiques de 1956 ? En fait, c'est avant tout dans l'histoire du monde soviétique et du communisme que 1956 a été une rupture : rupture idéologique, avec le XXe Congrès du PCUS ; rupture des équilibres au sein du bloc soviétique, avec la relance de la lutte pour le pouvoir du Kremlin et la participation des satellites de l'URSS aux jeux politiques internes du monde communiste. The invention of the hard disc by IBM, the explosion of the first hydrogen bomb over the Bikini atoll, the starting of the atomic reactor of Marcoule — didn't these events have a more important impact on the future than the political events of 1956? In fact, it was first of all in the history of the Soviet World and of communism that 1956 was a break: an ideological break, with the 20th Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union; break in the stability within the Soviet block, with the restarting of the power struggle in the Kremlin and the participation of the satellites countries of the Soviet Union in the internal politics of the Communist World.
