Cet article interroge la relation assez inédite entre la première organisation internationale à vocation universelle de l'histoire et les organisations privées créées aux fins de la soutenir. Si la jeune Société des Nations ne voyait dans ces organisations que de simples auxiliaires à la défense de leurs activités auprès des opinions publiques, celles-ci ne souhaitaient pas réduire leur action à une œuvre de propagande aveugle et prétendaient exercer une véritable influence sur les destinées de l'institution nouvelle. Elles s'employèrent ainsi à faire progresser les solutions qui leur paraissaient les plus conformes au développement de la coopération internationale par la SDN et à anticiper les problèmes internationaux auxquels les institutions genevoises devraient faire face. The League of Nations and its Support Organizations in the 1920s – Promoting the “Spirit of Geneva” and Seeking for Influence. This article examines the unprecedented relationship between the first international organization of universal vocation and the private organizations created for its support. Whereas the newly established League of Nations used to see these organizations as mere adjuncts for the defending of its activities in the eyes of public opinion, pro-League associations did not want to restrict their efforts to a simplistic propaganda and sought to exercise real influence over the new organization. Therefore they tried to put forward the most appropriate solutions with regard to the development of international cooperation through the League of Nations and helped to anticipate problems which would be faced by the international institutions based in Geneva.
