En prenant appui sur la question des déclarations d'avortements à l'occasion de la loi sur l'interruption volontaire de grossesse, et à partir d'une enquête portant à la fois sur l'origine des déclarations de naissance et de décès et sur l'évolution des enregistrements d'événements entre conception et «non-naissance», cet article essaie de montrer comment l'Etat se porte garant de l'ordre du vivant. Les déclarations d'état civil suivent un itinéraire dont le dessin se calque sur le chemin qu'empruntent l'organisation de l'Etat et la construction de la science du droit. Le mouvement de sécularisation progressive de l'administration des hommes aboutit aux statistiques démographiques puis aux statistiques sanitaires. Celles-ci renvoient une image des bonheurs et des drames humains dans ce qu'ils ont de plus intime, identiques en cela au chœur antique qui commentait le sort de la Cité et celui des héros de la tragédie. The statistical choir or the State as gurantor for the living order. Registrations and terminations of pregnancy.

Considering the question of abortion notifications around the Termination of Pregnancy Act, and using a survey on both the origins of birth and death registrations and the evolution of the registration of events between conception and «non-birth-, this article attempts to show how the State act as gurantor for the living order. The registrations follow a path very similar to that of the organization of the State and the construction of a science of law. The move towards a progressive secularization of the administration of individuals leads to demographie statistics and ten to health statistics. These reflect an image of human joys and dramas, similar in that respect to the antique choir that commented upon the fate of the City and that of the heroes of the tragedy.
