Depuis les années 1990, l'histoire urbaine du faubourg Saint-Antoine a participé à
la redécouverte des tissus constitués. Après le bouleversement typologique
provoqué par l'application du Plan d'Urbanisme Directeur, l'urbanisme et l'architecture des faubourgs parisiens furent étudiés pour être pérennisés. L'histoire de
ce quartier dans les deux derniers tiers du XX ? siècle permet de mieux comprendre
la volonté de renouveau et de modernité qui n'a cessé, depuis l'Entre-deux-guerres, d'orienter les politiques urbaines de la capitale comme œuvres de reconquête. Le faubourg Saint-Antoine, célèbre représentant des quartiers périphériques
de l'Est parisien, fut le premier à être accusé d'un retard architectural et urbain
mais aussi, le premier à être redécouvert, participant à la naissance d'un nouveau
regard, d'un nouvel urbanisme, de nouvelles architectures, réconciliant le rôle

Since the 1990s, the urban history of the Faubourg Saint-Antoine has cast light on
the aesthetic and urban qualities of anarchic suburban settings. From the Interwar
period until the end of the 20th century, the district was accused of suffering
architectural and urban delays, creating unfit and insalubrious housing, questioning urbanism and architecture. Therefore, after the Second World War, town
planning aimed to promote urban renewal and architectural modernity so that
suburban districts could fulfil the needs for housing, comfort and leisure. In 1961 ,
a new master plan was implemented to reshape Paris, threatening the district until
urban history brought the Faubourg Saint-Antoine's qualities to everyone's notice,
changing Parisians' point of view, leading to more respectful architectural and
urban concepts. Detailed master plans were soon established while the municipality, architects and town planners adapted their work to reconcile urban memory
