L'auteur souligne l'importance de la croissance démographique dans l'agglomération d'Istanbul, depuis la dernière guerre mondiale. Elle résulte beaucoup plus de l'accélération de l'immigration que de l'accroissement naturel. Sans remettre en cause la répartition de la population entre rive européenne et rive asiatique, les phénomènes récents entraînent l'affaiblissement des quartiers centraux et une extension très importante à la périphérie de l'agglomération.
Cette croissance démographique n'est pas soutenue par un développement économique en rapport : sous-emploi croissant, importance du secteur tertiaire. The author emphasises the importance of the population growth in the Istanbul agglomeration, since the Second World War. This is a result much more of an accelerated migration rate rather than that of the natural growth.
Without making any distinction between the population on the European side and that on the Asiatic side, recent trends have brought about a weaken-ing of the central ares and a very considerable expansion of the areas peripheral to the agglomeration.
This growth of population is not supported by a corresponding economic development ; growing under -employ ment ; the size of the tertiary sector. To the usual problems of sal agglomerations which are expanding rapidly (traffic, power, and water) there is added the increasing problem of shanty-towns. Source : Éditeur (via Persée) |
