Résumé. - Le développement agricole, officiel ou clandestin, atteint une très grande ampleur au Sahara tunisien, notamment au sud du Chott Jerid, dans le Nefzaoua, région longtemps presque exclusivement peuplée de nomades. La sédentarisation des nomades, l'engouement pour la datte d'exportation deglet nour, la richesse en ressources artésiennes, les programmes d'équipement et de mise en valeur, en sont les principales causes. Toutefois, le risque est grand de voir - comme cela s'est produit dans les secteurs anciennement mis en valeur au nord du chott - l'artésianisme s'affaiblir et la désertification s'accélérer. Abstract. - Official or clandestine agricultural development has now reached large proportions in the tunisian Sahara, especially to the south of the Chott Jerid, in the Nefzawa, an area once nearly exclusively occupied by nomads. The reasons for this development are to be found in the settling-down of the nomads, the fashion for the deglet nour date, which is exported, the importance of artesian water resources and the various programmes for equipping and reclaiming the area.
