La présente contribution étudie l'intérêt accru que porte au résiduel la science-fiction de langue allemande contemporaine. Pour ce faire, nous distinguerons deux catégories du résiduel, tout d'abord ce qui est absent, puis ce qui reste. Dans les œuvres étudiées, ces deux catégories servent d'une part à esquisser des mondes, d'autre part, elles suscitent une dialectique entre continuité et rupture. En nous rapportant aux théories de la science-fiction de Suvin et de Jameson, nous analyserons le fondement dialectique sur lequel s'appuient ces deux auteurs, tout en gardant à l'esprit l'assertion de Fukuyama de la « fin de l'histoire » et son impact sur la science-fiction et sa mission (à savoir la représentation d'une totalité). Enfin, cette contribution montrera, à partir de trois exemples ( Einladung an die Waghalsigen [Invitation aux audacieux] de Elmiger, Unternehmer [Entrepreneurs] de Nawrat et Serverland [Au pays des serveurs] de Riek) comment, en l'état actuel d'une histoire devenue effective, le résiduel peut susciter un nouvel axe historique et ce faisant rendre possible une totalité, elle-même fondée sur le résiduel. This article examines the increased engagement with the residual in contemporary German-language science fiction. For this purpose, the residual is divided into two categories, first as the absent and second as the remnant. These two categories are on one hand deployed for world construction in the diegetic world; simultaneously they offer a dialectic between continuity and rupture. Keeping this in mind, a comparison is made with Suvin and Jameson's model of the genre, whereby the dialectical basis in the two theorist's conceptualisation is lensed in light of Fukuyama's claim of the “end of history” and its effect on the science fiction genre and its task of imagining a totality. Finally, with the help of three novels (Elmiger's Einladung an die Waghalsigen, Nawrat's Unternehmer und Rieks' Serverland) the article attempts to demonstrate how the residual can re-establish a historical axis in our present condition of realised history, and thus enable a totality based on the residual.
