Is a social history of politics possible ? Gerard Noiriel.
Based on the book edited by René Rémond, Pour une histoire politique, the article questions a certain inability to « socialize » political history, e.g. to make use of the concept of « assimilation » for a history of immigration in France. It suggests a return to the first analyses of the questions at stake, at the time of Seignobos and Durkheim, in order to corne to grips with the « critical turn » in the relations between history and sociology that is presently taking place.
