Au-delà de l'opposition traditionnelle entre « description » et « objectivation », cet article propose un usage de la notion de carrière comme instrument d'objectivation. À partir d'une étude de la carrière anorexique, on montre qu'elle constitue une technique de rupture par rapport aux interprétations
médicales mais aussi par rapport aux discours sur soi des enquêtées. La notion de carrière apparaît alors
comme s'inscrivant dans un régime d'objectivation propre à la sociologie interactionniste et fondé

The Notion of Career: an Interactionist Objectification Technique
Against a common view of the Sociological Chicago Tradition as “comprehensive” or “descriptive” sociology, this article offers to use the notion of career as an objectification (“objectivation”) technique, namely in order to break with social pre-constructions of the object studied.
Drawing from a previous study of the anorexic career, it shows how the notion allowed to free
oneself both from medical and patient expert knowledge of anorexia. The notion of career thus
