La nouvelle classe ouvrière, technologie et histoire, par Jean-Daniel Reynaud
Le postulat evolutionniste sur lequel repose la théorie de la nouvelle classe ouvrière et qui fait une partie de sa séduction est soumis à examen. Outre que l'automation ne suffit pas à décrire les changements techniques de l'industrie, il semble très hasardeux d'établir une correspondance simple entre la transformation des techniques de production dans les entreprises, la croissance des firmes et a fortiori de l'ensemble de l'économie et la qualification (ou le niveau de formation) de la main-d'oeuvre employée. Enfin, l'effet des changements techniques sur l'action syndicale ne peut être que très indirect, dans la mesure où les uns sont ponctuels et l'autre repose sur la stratégie généralisatrice d'une organisation.

The new working class, technology and history, by Jean-Daniel Reynaud
The evolutionist postulate, which forms the basis of the theory of the new working class and is part of its attraction, is subjected to examination. Apart from the fact that automation is an inadequate description of the technical changes that have taken place in industry, it would seem very hazardous to establish a simple relationship between the transformation of production techniques in enterprises, the growth of firms and, a fortiori, of the economy as a whole, and the skills (or degree of training) of employed labour. Lastly, the effect of technical changes on union action can only be very indirect since the former are instantaneous, while the latter depends on the generalizing strategy employed by an organization.
