La conjoncture politique de l'élection. Les conditions d'élection d'un candidat de gauche ne sont pas identiques en 1967, en 1968 et en 1973. 2. La tendance politique du candidat qui représente la gauche. Un candidat communiste ne mobilise pas au second tour l'électoral de la même façon qu'un candidat de la gauche non communiste. 3. Le niveau de la gauche au premier tour. 4. Le niveau de la droite d'opposition. 5. Le rapport de force interne de la gauche. 	Résumé anglais	ELECTORAL RULES IN ELECTIONS BY ABSOLUTE MAJORITY, by FRÉDÉRIC BON and JÉRÔME JAFFRÉ There are five general variables to be taken into account when attempting to explain the victory or defeat of a Left candidate fighting a majority candidate in a second ballot. 1. The political situation at the time of the election. The conditions governing the election of a Left candidate were not the same in 1967, 1968 and 1973. 2. The political leaning of the candidate representing the Left. A Communist candidate does not mobilize the electorate in a second ballot in the same way as a non-Communist Left candidate. 3. The position of the Left in the first ballot. 4. The position of the opposition Right. 5. The Left's internal power relationship.
