REMARQUES SUR L'INSCRIPTION ET LA PARTICIPATION ÉLECTORALES A PARIS, par MARIE-FRANCE TOINET
L'interférence de phénomènes tels ceux des non-inscrits et des faux-inscrits et la difficulté d'obtenir des chiffres parfaitement fiables expliquent la complexité des recherches sur l'abstention. Les modifications dans le comportement abstentionniste entre élections successives et entre les deux tours d'un même scrutin, et les variations de l'abstention suivant les situations personnelles et le contexte politique, confirment l'hypothèse du caractère politique de l'acte abstentionniste contribuant ainsi à écarter certaines théories américaines qui fondent leur explication sur « l'apathie » ou le « cynisme » des abstentionnistes.

ON REGISTRATION AND ELECTORAL PARTICIPATION IN PARIS, by MARIE-FRANCE TOINET
Non voting varies between different elections or between the first and second round of the same election, according to the situation of the voter and the political choices offered him. Factors such as non-registration and false registrations, and the difficulty of obtaining completely reliable statistics complicate non-voting research. But the study confirms that non-voting is politically significant, thus throwing doubt on certain American theories which base their explanation of abstention on the « apathy » or « cynicism » of the non-voter.
