GRAMSCI EN FRANCE, par ROBERT PARIS
Les débats de la gauche italienne se référant toujours à Gramsci de manière prioritaire, les modalités de l'introduction de son œuvre et les « lectures » qui en sont proposées en France fournissent peut-être les éléments explicatifs de cette prédominance. L'accent mis sur la doctrine de l'« hégémonie » en occulte, en particulier, le fondement stratégique : la « guerre de position », dont on évite de se demander s'il s'agit ou non d'un retour aux positions classiques de la social-démocratie. Et si l'insistance à souligner le « léninisme » de Gramsci vise d'évidence à le démarquer du marxisme occidental, le silence autour de la « philosophie de la praxis » tend également à masquer la contradiction qui oppose la définition d'une Weltanschauung comme philosophie totale et une stratégie des alliances. La « lecture » française de Gramsci qui met en avant l'analyse des superstructures et la théorie des intellectuels apparaît ainsi conditionnée tout à la fois par la situation des intellectuels sous la Cinquième République et par la conjoncture politique de la gauche française.

GRAMSCI IN FRANCE

Since the debates within the Italian left always refer primarily to Gramsci, the methods used to introduce his work and the " readings " proposed in France may go some way towards explaining this predominance. The emphasis placed on the doctrine of " hegemony " hides, in particular, its strategic base, the " war of position ", about which no questions are asked as to whether or not this represents a return to the traditional positions of social democracy. And while the insistence on underlining Gramsci's " Leninism " is obviously intended to set him apart from Western Marxism, the silence with regard to the "philosophy of praxis " also tends to conceal the contradiction between the definition of a Weltanschauung as a total philosophy and a strategy of alliances. The French " reading " of Gramsci, which presses the analysis of superstructures and the theory of intellectuals, thus seems to be shaped both by the situation of intellectuals under the Fifth Republic, and by the political state of the French left.
