Antoine Savoye : Les continuateurs de Le Play au tournant du siècle.
Trois années après la mort de Le Play, ses continuateurs se divisent en deux tendances, celle de la Société d'économie sociale et celle de la Science sociale. On examine ici les causes de cette scission et la destinée des deux tendances au tournant du siècle. La Science sociale, du fait des orientations scientifiques et des options politiques de ses deux fondateurs, s'isole et connaît une perte d'audience. Constat qui, cependant, doit être nuancé par la prise en considération de la carrière individuelle de certains de ses membres. Quant à la Société d'économie sociale, révisant la méthode monographique de Le Play, elle renoue avec le service de l'État. Elle participe aux travaux de l'Office du travail, embryon de l'appareil d'étude de la société dont l'État se dote progressivement. Au total, les le playsiens, absents de l'institutionnalisation de la sociologie qui s'opère au plan universitaire, concourent à ce mouvement mais dans d'autres secteurs de la société. Antoine Savoye : Le Play's continuators at the turn of the century.
Three years after Le Play's death his continuators divided into two tendencies, the Society of Social Economy and Social Science. The causes of this split and the fortunes of both tendencies at the turn of the century are studied here. Owing to the scientific orientations and political choices of its two founders. Social Science withdrew to a more marginal position and lost part of its audience - however when the individual careers of a certain number of its members are taken into consideration the situation will not appear quite so clearcut. As far as the Society of Social Economy is concerned, by revising Le Play's monographic method it returned to the tradition of serving the State. It participated in the work of the Office of Labour which was the first form taken by the apparatus set up progressively by the State for studying society. On the whole the followers of Le Play, even though they did not participate in the institutionalization of sociology which took place in the universities, contributed to this same movement in other areas of society.
