Cet article se propose d'analyser la portée des réformes engagées par Barack Obama dans sa lutte contre la crise économique. Après avoir évoqué les spécificités de l'approche que les Américains ont de l'économie, notamment après la « révolution conservatrice » menée par Ronald Reagan, l'auteur montre que le retour de l'État est aussi une réalité aux États-Unis : le plan de relance initié par la nouvelle équipe démocrate a le potentiel pour altérer de façon substantielle l'équilibre socio-économique hérité des années 1980. The Crisis and the Third American Revolution This article deals with the economic reforms initiated by the Obama White House. The author first explains what the American specificities are in economics. The emphasis on deregulation and individualism became especially center stage back in the 1980s under Reagan. The argument here, however, is that the government is back: the stimulus plan adopted by Congress in the winter of 2009 may potentially alter in a significant way the social and economic balance inherited from the 1980s.
