| Résumé | Il devrait être possible de quantifier les transferts entre secteur marchand et secteur domestique chaque fois que le consommateur doit choisir pour lui-même entre les deux : les données de son calcul personnel peuvent être généralisées. En outre, les producteurs et les commerçants font le calcul inverse lorsqu'ils se déchargent d'une partie de leurs tâches sur l'acheteur (self-service, meubles prêts à monter, etc.). Ces transferts transforment les tâches domestiques et leur répartition au sein du ménage. Sur tous ces points, les données statistiques sont encore insuffisantes. | |
| Résumé anglais | Despite what is often said, it may be possible to quantify the transfers between the market and domestic (non-market) sectors of the economy by generalizing from the calculations made by individual consumers when they choose between them. Indeed manufacturers and retailers make such calculations when they decide to transfer parts of their own functions to consumers (self-service, do-it-yourself, etc.). These transfers transform domestic life and the allocation of activities within the family. Contemporary woman is torn between the stereotype of the « modern woman », competent and liberated by the market, and the contrary image which has emerged from the revaluation of domesticity, tending to make her economical, a good wife and housekeeper. For men too the revaluation of manual work, of independent and creative work which has led to the rise of the « handyman » is more often the result of choice rather than economic necessity. | |
