| Résumé anglais | FRANCOIS MITTERRAND, HEAD OF STATE, COMMEMORATOR AND CITIZEN During the Bicentenary, François Mitterrand tried to polish his image as an intellectual in politics and to defend the Jauresian conception of the Revolution. Drawing from the consensus about the Republic, he used the commemorative events to reaffirm the left/right split. The secularisation of politics, has led him to withdraw the call for Republican enthusiasm, nevertheless being tempted to reintroduce it through quotations or the spectacle the collapse the socialist world. | |
