L'analyse politique des grandes étapes du récit qui ont jalonné la construction des termes d'une controverse sur le devenir métropolitain de Paris est un préalable pour comprendre le devenir du projet « Paris métropole ». Si l'on pose l'hypothèse que ce projet est avant tout un objet transitionnel qui aurait permis de fixer les attentions et les discours sur « la nécessité d'un changement que personne n'osait nommer », il faut de là envisager l'énoncé même de la notion de métropole comme une condition pour avancer et transformer les débats en actualisant l'ancienne problématique du Grand Paris. The political analysis of the principle stages of the commentary which has accompanied the construction of the terms of a controversy over the future of the Paris metropolitan area, is a prerequisite for understanding the future of the ‘Paris metropole ‘project. If we hypothesise that this project is above all a transitional object to focus attention on ‘the need for change which no one dares to mention', one must envisage the stating of the notion of metropolis as a pre-condition to advance and transform the debates by modernising the erstwhile problem of Greater Paris (Grand Paris).
