Le terrorisme représente au XXIe siècle la plus grande menace pour la stabilité mondiale. Si la communauté euro-atlantique s'accorde sur la nécessité d'éradiquer ce terrorisme global, elle ne parvient pas à défendre une stratégie commune. Depuis la guerre en Irak, l'administration américaine a défini la doctrine de la guerre globale soutenant une réponse essentiellement militaire. S'oppose à cette stratégie, une stratégie européenne orientée sur une approche plus politique et diplomatique, remettant alors en cause l'unité du monde occidental. L'intervention américaine en Irak a montré ses limites. Loin de son objectif initial, elle a donné une impulsion nouvelle à ce terrorisme. Les attentats de Madrid et de Londres ont en effet montré toute la détermination des terroristes à venger tout soutien à cette stratégie américaine. Source : Éditeur (via Cairn.info) |

The Global War against Terrorism and its Consequences for the Euro-American RelationsIn the 21st century, terrorism has become the biggest threat towards international stability. While the Euro Atlantic community considers that it is of the utmost importance to eradicate it, it is not able to set up a common strategy. Since the war in Iraq, the administration has developed the Global War on terrorism doctrine, which support military action to fight terrorism. The European countries on the other hand, have developed a strategy to fight terrorism based on political and diplomatic means. The divergence in strategy to fight terrorism puts into question the unity in the Western world. The American military campaign in Iraq has shown its limits. Far from its initial goal, it has given a fresh impetus to terrorism. The terrorist attacks in Madrid and London has revealed the determination of those terrorist groups to punish the countries that supported the military action in Iraq.
