Depuis 2008, l'Inde s'est libérée de son embargo nucléaire grâce au soutien déterminant de Washington, qui voit en elle un partenaire économique et stratégique durable pour contenir la montée en puissance de la Chine et stabiliser l'Asie du Sud. Bien que reconnaissante envers Washington, l'Inde ne s'en sent pas tributaire. D'un côté, son marché nucléaire est ouvert à tous les acteurs du secteur, dont le français Areva ou le russe Rosatom. De l'autre, consciente que son développement restera dépendant de son approvisionnement en pétrole ou en gaz, New Delhi négocie avec des pays isolés par ses partenaires occidentaux, à l'image de l'Iran. L'Inde maintient donc une diplomatie, parfois en contradiction avec celle de l'Occident, et conforte ainsi son statut d'allié non-aligné des États-Unis. Source : Éditeur (via Cairn.info) |

Civil Nuclear Energy in India : Economic Interests and Geopolitical Stakes Since 2008, India got rid of its nuclear embargo thanks to the decisive support of Washington, which considers New Delhi as an economic and strategic sustainable partner to contain the rise of China and stabilize South Asia. Although it is grateful to Washington, India doesn't feel itself a tributary of this country. On the one hand, its nuclear market is opened to all the actors of the area, such as the French Areva and the Russian Rosatom. On the other hand, New Delhi, which is aware that its development will remain dependent on oil and gas supplies, continues to negotiate with countries isolated by its Western partners, like Iran.
