Objectiver précisément, preuves empiriques à l'appui, les effets concrets que des classements archivistiques et de bibliothèques ont pu avoir sur telles ou telles pratiques historiographiques n'est pas chose aisée. Contre certaines inférences trop rapides, on se propose ici d'attirer l'attention sur les limites insurmontables d'une telle entreprise à partir de l'historicisation concomitante de deux types de discours disciplinaires non congruents : la théorie archivistique et l'historiographie dite historiciste de langue allemande (fin XVIIIe-XIXe siècles). S'il est avéré que dans l'un et l'autre cas on assiste bien à un changement fondamental de paradigme (i.e. de la mémoire juridique des États d'Ancien Régime à la conscience historique de la Nation), le lien existant alors entre classements archivistiques et pratiques historiographiques n'apparaît nullement comme direct ni univoque : au-delà de l'imprimé donc, d'autres types de sources devront être exhumés afin de mettre ce lien en évidence. From the judicial memory of the German States to the historical conscience of the nation : archival and historiographical views among German speakers (end of 18th to 19th Century) Based on empirical data, it is difficult to demonstrate the concrete effects of archival and library classifications on a given historiographical practice. Against fast and loose inferences, I suggest that we direct attention to the insurmountable limits of such an enterprise, starting with the simultaneous historization of two types of discourse that are incongruous : the archivists' views and the so-called historicist historiography of German writers (end of 18th to 19th Century). If we recognize that in both cases we witness a fundamental paradigm shift (that is, from the judicial memory of the German States to the historical conscience of the nation), the connection between archival classification and historiographical practices appears neither direct nor unequivocal : beyond printed materials other kinds of sources must be extracted in order to provide evidence for the connection.
