L'article analyse les changements affectant les institutions, les traitements et l'organisation de la lutte contre le cancer entre 1945 et 1960. Il s'attache à montrer que la dynamique des changements est déterminée par l'interpénétration des stratégies conservatrices de ceux qui occupent les positions de pouvoirs institutionnels et des stratégies novatrices de deux groupes d'outsiders qui se différencient des médecins dominants sur deux plans, leur investissement dans la recherche médicale et leur engagement pendant la guerre dans la Résistance. Heirs and Innovators : the Transformations of the Area of Cancer-related Activities in France (1945-1960)This article analyses the changes affecting the institutions, treatments and organisations linked to fighting cancer between 1945 and 1960. It aims to show that the dynamics of those changes were determined by the interpenetration of the conservative strategies of those in positions of institutional authority and the innovative strategies of two groups of outsiders who differed from the dominant physicians both by their commitment to medical research and their involvement in the Resistance during the war.
