En 1978, lorsque les métallurgistes brésiliens de la région ABC Paulista ont initié une importante vague de grèves, ils ont de facto commencé à tracer une nouvelle phase de l'histoire récente du Brésil, dans laquelle les intellectuels et les syndicalistes ont établi des liens, dont l'étroitesse et l'intensité sont très variables en fonction de la position de ces agents dans le champ politique, surtout après le rétablissement de la démocratie. Cet article aborde les façons dont deux générations de syndicalistes ont constitué leur habitus militant entre différents registres de formation : les pratiques syndicales quotidiennes et les connaissances politiques formalisées, acquises essentiellement dans des cours de formations politiques conçus et négociés au sein d'une « alliance tacite » entre le syndicat des métallurgistes et les intellectuels, surtout enseignants à l'université. Two generations of unionists in Brazil: everyday practices and political training In 1978, the Brazilian metal workers of the ABC Paulista region initiated an important wave of strikes and de facto started writing a new chapter in Brazil's recent history, characterized by a new relationship between intellectuals and union members, the strength and intensity of which was variable and dependent on the position of these actors in the political field, especially after the return to democracy. This paper analyzes the ways in which two generations of unionists have developed an activist habitus shaped by different repertoires: everyday union activities and codified political expertise, accumulated mostly through political training classes designed and negotiated within an “implicit alliance” between the metal workers and the intellectuals, especially those teaching in the universities.
