Cet article interroge l'apparition d'un « quartier gay » à Montréal à travers les changements qui affectent le statut minoritaire et stigmatisé des populations homosexuelles dans les sociétés occidentales contemporaines. À partir d'une enquête portant sur le Village Gai de Montréal, il montre comment l'image du refuge identitaire est d'abord centrale dans la construction du quartier gay durant les années 1980 et comment elle est effectivement mobilisée par une première génération gay montréalaise. Montreal's “Gay Village”. A Minority Urban Tale This paper is focused on the history of the gay neighborhood in Montreal, le Village, through the historical change of homosexual deviant identities from the 1980s to the 2000s. This research combines various data and shows how le Village was first used and seen as a refuge for gay people while the neighborhood was not as popular as it is now. During the 1990s, le Village changed a lot and became a specific resource for new gay generations.
