La configuration actuelle de l'Union européenne résulte du dépassement des frontières nationales et de l'interprétation stricte du principe de souveraineté. L'intégration économique, monétaire, politique et humaine qui caractérise l'Union européenne aujourd'hui n'aurait pu être accomplie si les frontières nationales avaient été maintenues. Cet article considère que la frontière politique de l'Union européenne s'identifie avec l'acquis communautaire, et que les élargissements de l'Union représentent l'ouverture de cette frontière. The current configuration of the European Union is the result of the overtaking of national borders and of the strict interpretation of the sovereignty principle. The economic, monetary, political and human integration that characterizes the European Union today could not have been achieved if national borders had been maintained. This article considers that the political frontier of the European Union is the acquis communautaire and that the enlargements of the European Union represent the opening of this border.
