Alors que l'histoire s'est brutalement remise en marche au Maghreb, après des décennies de stagnation et de répression, il est opportun de s'interroger sur le déclin des études historiques consacrées à cette région. La France a été un terreau, colonial, puis post-colonial, très fertile à l'écriture de l'histoire de l'Afrique du Nord, ancienne et contemporaine. Mais en ce début de XXIe siècle, les tendances à l'œuvre sont négatives. En France, la recherche et l'enseignement institutionnels sont marginalisés. La recherche française s'est réorientée sur le Proche-Orient depuis les années 1980, souvent au titre de la politologie. En face, les États du Maghreb ont mis en œuvre des politiques qui ont considérablement affaibli les ressorts de leur recherche nationale. Les synergies entre une recherche française affaiblie et une recherche maghrébine sous contrôle peinent donc à se mettre en place. En histoire aussi, le « printemps arabe » doit souffler. While history has started again in North Africa after decades of stagnation and repression, it may be a suitable time to explore the decline of the historical studies dedicated to this part of the world. During the colonial and post-colonial period, France was the very fertile centre of the writing of both ancient and contemporary history of North Africa. But at the beginning of the 21st century, it is not true. anymore In France, both institutional research and teaching are marginalized. Since the 1980s, French research studies have focused on the Middle East more than on North Africa and History has given way to Political Sciences. On their side, the North African scientific policies strongly weakened the drive of their national research. The synergies between a marginalised French research and a Maghreb research under control are very weak.. In history too the “Arab Spring” must get its breath back.
