Résumé anglais Buster Keaton's films often portray the conflict between the protagonist and natural forces, sometimes in their most extreme manifestations. But the main character manages, thanks to his ingenuity and acrobatic skills, to divert opposing forces and use them to achieve his overweening goal. This paper focuses on the dynamics of space in Keaton's films and considers how American nature is not used as a mere setting here, but is turned into a comic environment by the skill of the artist, and inscribed in a structure of mechanical harmony that manages to achieve a striking combination between beauty and the burlesque.
