En France, les think tanks sont un objet mystérieux et encore difficilement maîtrisé, qui évolue à la limite des mondes politiques et académiques, sans toutefois faire partie à part entière d'un de ces deux mondes. La France commence à peine à s'ouvrir à ces institutions, mais reste encore loin du niveau d'intégration au sein du système politique dont jouissent les multiples think tanks américains. Cette étude s'attachera à expliquer en quoi les think tanks sont un pur produit du système politique américain, système au sein duquel ces institutions se sont développées et aux évolutions desquelles elles se sont adaptées depuis leur création. The influence of Think Tanks in American Politics The realm of think tanks in the United States, with its deep history and track record of influence in various forms, and its existence at the crossroads of the academic and political spheres, cannot in any way be compared to the development of think tanks in France. Think tanks in France are not integrated in the political system to the same extent its numerous American counterparts have been able to influence policymaking since the onset of the 20th century. This paper will look at explaining how think tanks are a product of the American political system, and how these institutions have developed themselves and adapted to the evolutions of this system since that period of time, thereby ensuring their continued relevance and importance within the system.
