Résumé anglais N. T. Binh is mainly known as a film critic for Positif under the name of Yann Tobin. He started writing for the film journal in 1979, at a time when he was a medical student. He went on writing for Positif, while working as a freelance operator in several positions. He was first an independent producer of scientific and corporate films for the company Binôme that he had himself created. He then became an author of books on the cinema, a professor (as a visiting industry expert at the universities of Rennes, Louvain-la-Neuve, and Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne), a director of documentaries, a co-writer or script doctor on several projects, a distributor (for three years, at Les Grands Films Classiques), and an exhibitor (for two years, in a Parisian art/repertory theater). Recently, he has been the curator of various exhibitions in Paris. His cinephilic interests started with the Hollywood classic era. This taste, which he shares with Positif in general, together with his knowledge of the French cinema industry and the independent film markets, gives him a vantage point on independence in the cinema.
