Le concept de travail est un concept nomade qui a accompagné la création d'une succession de disciplines, à commencer par l'économie politique au XVIIIe siècle, puis la sociologie au XIXe et ses ramifications au XXe. Devant le cloisonnement des analyses du travail, des chercheurs(-ses) indiscipliné(e)s ont transgressé les frontières des disciplines pour faire progresser l'analyse. Aujourd'hui, en réponse à la crise, les chercheurs tendent à réintégrer le concept de travail dans la globalité de l'activité humaine, renouant ainsi avec la philosophie morale du XVIIe siècle dont il était issu. A unique case of interdisciplinarity : work as a nomadic concept The concept of work is a nomadic one that has accompanied the creation of several disciplines in succession : political economics in the 18th century, followed by sociology in the 19th century and its 20th century ramifications. Given the compartmentalisation of analyses on work, “un-disciplined” researchers have been transgressing the boundaries between disciplines to take their analyses further. Today, in response to the economic crisis, researchers are tending to bring the concept of work back into the full range of human activity, returning as they do so to the 17th century moral philosophy from which the concept first emerged.
