For a long time information retrieval has had to be mediated by an information professional so that the user can find a documentary answer relevant to his/her questioning. But the growing development of virtual learning environment in this field tends to remove human exchanges in favour of various mediation techniques: organizational, functional and documentary. The study of a specific educational device - the access platform to editorial resources CORRELYCE - will allow us to examine the users' practices from the standpoint of these mediations. Thus will emerge both the achievements and the limits of a fully-technical mediation, together with the gap between the developers' expectations and the reality of the users'practices, implying the need to maintain a human mediation.
