The quarter of Saint-Georges is now experiencing a major transformation. It lies in the southern part of the historic zone of « Vieux Lyon », adjacent to the area of Saint- Jean, which itself represents a prime example of urban renovation. The aim of this article is to determine the characteristics of this change by a detailed study of retailing activity and retailers in the area of Saint-Georges. While certain highly specialised, micro retailing sectors have been remodelled, it should not be concluded that the whole of this historic area has been improved, for retailers are often opposed to this process.
