Comme alternative au « musée imaginaire », cet article en forme d'hommage à Gérard Blanchard est constitué de deux parties : le récit d'un songe durant lequel est découvert un modèle graphique, puis la description de la théorie que ce modèle figure. L'écriture y est polarisée par un triangle constitué de la signification, de l'enregistrement et de la forme. Chacun de ces sommets est décrit avec la forme archétypale d'écriture qui lui correspond, en opposition aux autres sommets. La typographie réalise les trois aspects simultanément et se place ainsi en tension au centre du triangle, à égale distance des trois sommets. Cette théorie imaginaire permet d'illustrer la raison pour laquelle une technique (un ensemble de techniques) peut trouver une place aussi centrale dans une œuvre et un système de valeurs. As an alternative option to the “imaginary museum” this tribute to Gérard Blanchard is in two parts: the story of a dream during which a graphic system is discovered, then the description of the theory of this system. Writing is polarised by a triangle made of the meaning, the recording and the shape. Each summit is described with the archetypal form of writing which corresponds to it as opposed to the other summits. Typography simultaneously encompasses the three aspects and is located in tension at the centre of the triangle at equal distance of the three summits. This imaginary theory illustrates the reason why a technique (a set of skills) can be that central to a work and a value system.
