In urban fringes, the future of agriculture is an outstanding problem. Rural equipments, such as irrigation systems, are often. presented as suitable solutions, on account of the intensification process they promote. With regard to zoning, irrigation is either considered as a means for making use of an agricultural allocation, or an attempt to lead to this • agricultural allocation. The paper, a case study about Millery-Mornant, aims at testing > the actual power of an irrigation system to maintain the agricultural use of land front of, rival strategies concerning land" appropriation (urbanization, quarrying) .
