Cet article propose d'étudier les migrations internationales des femmes comme situation de rupture dans le parcours de vie de leurs enfants qui restent dans le pays d'origine. Il s'appuie sur une enquête de terrain réalisée auprès d'un échantillon d'enfants à El Alto en Bolivie. L'analyse porte sur la reconfiguration des structures familiales suite au départ des mères et sur le rôle en particulier de la famille élargie et des membres féminins de la famille. Le matricentrage apparaît dans ce contexte comme une stratégie de soin et de protection des enfants reposant sur des mécanismes d'entraide familiale et les notions de parenté/ maternité transnationale. The matricentral model as a child protection strategy: the international migration of Bolivian women This article studies the international migration of women as a breakdown situation in the lifecourse of their children who stay in their country of origin. It is based on data collected by the authors in El Alto, Bolivia, on a sample of children. The analysis focuses on the changes in family structures after the departure of the mother, and on the role of the extended family, particularly female members of the family, in these changes. The matricentral model based on support arrangements within the family and on the notion of transnational parenthood/motherhood emerges in this context as a strategy for caring and protecting children.
