| Résumé | Représentation mythique du monde et domination masculine chez les Pomaques grecs Cet article qui présente une étude de cas valeur para- digmatique accomplit une rupture avec approche structuraliste du système des oppositions mythico- rituelles en démontrant méthodiquement peut-être pour la première fois que cette représentation mythique du monde qui informe toutes les pratiques contribue fonder légitimer et reproduire les rapports de domination et exploitation entre les sexes Du fait de leur classement du côté de la fécondité de inté rieur du courbe et du bas les femmes pomaques assu ment la totalité des travaux domestiques essentiel des travaux productifs et parmi ceux-ci les plus salis sants les plus monotones et de fa on générale les plus pénibles La taxinomie mythique contribue au tant mieux la domination masculine elle présente une autonomie relative vis-à-vis des rapports de domi nation quelle fonde Il faut en effet que certaines oppositions soient socialement neutres comme celle entre humide et le sec pour que la division sexuelle du travail puisse paraître liée la nature même de cha cun des sexes et pour que demeure ainsi occultée la fonction de légitimation exercée par le système mythique pris comme un tout Mais aptitude de ce dernier établir les conditions idéologiques néces saires au maintien des rapports de force entre les sexes tient aussi au fait étant au fondement des | |
| Résumé anglais | Mythical Representation of the World and Male Domination among the rnaks of Greece The present article is paradigmatic case-study which breaks with the structuralist approach to the system of mythico-ritual oppositions Instead it systematically shows perhaps for the first time that this mythical representation of the world which informs all practices helps found legitimize and reproduce the relations of domination and exploitation between the genders Because they are catalogued on the side of fertility the inside all that is curved and low Pomak women per form all of the domestic tasks the bulk of productive tasks and among these the dirtiest most monotonous and in general fashion the hardest jobs The contri bution of mythical taxonomy to male domination is all the greater because it appears to be relatively indepen dent from the relations of domination it founds Indeed it is necessary for certain oppositions to be socially neutral such as that between wet and dry in order for the sexual division of labor to appear to be bound up with the very nature of each of the genders and in order for the legitimizing function of the myth system as whole to remain occulted But the capacity of this system to establish the ideological conditions necessary to maintain the relations of power between the sexes also stems from the fact that because it underpins these practices it tends to produce conti nual stream of proofs of its veracity In sort of vicious circle it is legitimized by the practices which it in turn legitimizes The sexual division of labor founded by this mythical thinking tends to develop in both gen ders capacities and incapacities which produce the illusion of the natural and justified character of these oppositions Each gender therefore contributes through its behavior to the reproduction of the symbo lic relations of powder between the sexes and ultimately of the social order itself Following the same line of reasoning the multitude of prohibitions restricting | |
