Rice Culture and Water Control in Democratic Kampuchea.
In Democratic Kampuchea, agriculture is the main topic for the leaders. They set up collectivism in two different ways : 1) the cooperatives where the very young children, the married people and the old ones work on a sedentary basis ; 2) the mobile teams of young workers who go throughout the country. From three years on, everybody is a producer. Work is divided according to the age and the strength of individuals. The major changes and new realizations concern, on the one hand the modifications in the parcels and the transplanting ;on the other hand the construction of irrigation masterpieces which are erected all over the country : their quality is variable though improving. The production is likely to the one before, but exportations have grown ; this fact might explain the starvation of the people, at least partially. Source : Éditeur (via Persée) |
