The Subversion of French Villages
Empirical observation of recent changes in french rural society leads to the analysis of two decisive processes at work in the social dynamics of villages : on the one hand, the renovation of local societies as a by-product of both a new stratification of the peasantry and the establishment of non-agricultural residents ; on the other hand, the development of new social relations within the communities and throughout the network linking them together.
