Conceptions of justice in the Buenos Aires countryside (1800-1830) -
Sources in civil court archives can be used to study the ideas that inhabitants of the Buenos Aires countryside had about justice during the first thirty years of the 19th century. The diversity of these conceptions and of the values underlying them results from contradictions between Spanish traditions and practices, on the one hand, and the changes wrought by the 1810 Revolution, on the
other. The conflicts that pitted landowners against share-croppers and tenant farmers reflect these
