Loin de s'enfermer dans le silence ou de conclure à l'« indicibilité » de l'expérience, ils montrent concrètement, par les mots, les difficultés de communication qui se présentent lorsqu'on essaie de transmettre un vécu de l'« extrême ». Ils mènent une lutte sémantique contre un autre type de « silence » : celui programmé dans la Solution finale. | |
| Résumé anglais | WORDS THAT GIVE LIFE : COMMENTARIES ON THE LANGUAGE IN DEPORTATION NARRATIVES Concentration camp reports written by survivors of Auschwitz, and of the German National Socialist camps, are characterized by their questioning of language. But instead of taking refuge in silence or decreeing the « unspeakability » of their experience, the authors of these reports show the reader, by the use of words, the difficulties in communicating which arise when trying to express trauma in its most extreme form. It is thus that they lead a semantical attack against another type of « silence », as programmed for the victims of the Final Solution. | |
