Ceux qui ont, en français, servi à désigner les habitants de l'Algérie en témoignent dans les valeurs parfois contraires qu'ils expriment. Ils ont enregistré les rapports conflictuels de l'espace méditerranéen puis du cadre colonial ; les « batailles sémantiques » dont ils furent l'objet reflètent celles de l'histoire. | |
| Résumé anglais | «ALGERIEN» IN THE IMBROGLIO OF DESIGNATIONS Ethnonyms carry the sense with which they are attributed by the speakers who use them. Those which, in French, have served to designate the habitants of Algeria bear witness to this, through the sometimes contradictory values that they express. They are a record of the conflictual relations with which the colonial legacy has marked the Mediterranean region ; these objects of « semantic battles » are the reflection of historical conflicts. | |
