Le souffle révolutionnaire qui parcourt le monde arabe a surpris tout le monde, y compris la mouvance islamiste radicale et les organisations terroristes. Au Maghreb, la chute du régime de Ben Ali et les réformes au Maroc ont d'abord déstabilisé AQMI qui s'est trouvée marginalisée par rapport aux manifestations populaires, avant que la chute inéluctable du colonel Kadhafi ne galvanise les combattants convaincus que la solution face aux régimes dictatoriaux passe par les armes. En Algérie, le mois de ramadan 2011 a été le plus meurtrier depuis la création d'AQMI en 2006. Jamais l'organisation de Droukdal n'a mené autant d'attentats-suicide en un laps de temps aussi court. Le « printemps arabe » constitue indéniablement un tournant car l'avenir de l'organisation terroriste dépend intégralement de son issue. Al-Qaeda in Islamic Maghreb: the Turning Point of Arab Revolutions The revolutionary spirit which has run through the Arab world is surprising everyone, including the radical Islamists and the terrorist organizations. In the Maghreb, the fall of the Ben Ali regime and the reforms made in Morocco had first destabilized AQIM – which has actually been marginalized in regards to these popular demonstrations. However, after the fall of Colonel Qaddafi AQIM fighters were galvanized believing that the solution to the dictatorial regimes lied in armed strength. In Algeria, the 2011 Ramadan proved to be the deadliest month since the 2006 creation of AQIM. Never before had Droukdal's organization led so many suicide attacks in such a short time. The “Arab spring” is clearly a turning point because the future of the terrorist organization depends entirely on its outcome.
