La carte est un objet entretenant un rapport étroit avec la mesure, rédigée par le cartographe à partir d'un ensemble de mesures prises sur le terrain et devenant elle-même outil de mesure. L'article propose d'étendre ce constat en considérant la carte comme un modèle, au même titre qu'un modèle mathématique ou un modèle physique, en adoptant l'approche relationnelle de Robert Rosen. Cette approche permet d'analyser de manière nouvelle la dialectique entre carte et mesure et la façon dont la carte fait émerger du sens en mobilisant les opérations d'analogie et de comparaison qui font partie des opérations de base du calcul spatial. The map is an object maintaining a close connection with measurement, drawn by the cartographer after a set of measurements taken on the ground, and becoming itself a measuring instrument. We propose to extend this link by regarding the map as a model, just as a mathematical model or a physical model, following the relational approach of Robert Rosen. This approach makes it possible to analyse in a new way the dialectical relationship between map and measurement, and the way in which the map makes meaning emerge by mobilizing analogy and comparison that are among the base operations of spatial cognition and computation.
