Via la lecture du roman Gut gegen Nordwind (Quand souffle le vent du Nord, Daniel Glattauer, 2008) et de la nouvelle Ein Beitrag zur Debatte (Contribution au débat, Daniel Kehlmann, 2009), le présent article analyse le traitement littéraire de l'internet et du changement sociétal qu'il engendre. Gut gegen Nordwind raconte la relation par e-mail entre Emmi et Leo, qui tombent amoureux sans jamais se rencontrer. Ce roman par e-mail présente des similitudes avec le genre du roman épistolaire, mais aussi des différences par rapport à lui. Les protagonistes se créent, par une écriture performative, une identité spécifique au dialogue électronique, et contradictoire par rapport à celle proposée au monde réel. Le virtuel est donc une hétérotopie, dont les personnages défendent farouchement les frontières, car le passage d'un élément d'un monde à l'autre signifierait la fin de l'histoire d'amour. Ein Beitrag zur Debatte, issu du roman Gloire, imite de façon convaincante une autre forme de communication, le post sur forum. Le narrateur y est caractérisé sous la forme d'un geek accro aux forums virtuels. Bien que correct d'un point de vue technique, le récit du narrateur est miné par des traits stylistiques, son absence de rapport au réel ainsi que son inadéquation aux autres histoires du recueil. La nouvelle est donc une caricature du geek et une parodie de post sur un forum, démontrant l'inefficacité de ce medium. Il faut souligner les différences entre les deux approches : pessimisme concernant l'internet chez Kehlmann, vision positive avec réserves chez Glattauer. Cependant, ces deux romans, comme beaucoup de publications allemandes actuelles, réagissent au même changement paradigmatique, à savoir la nécessité de gérer simultanément plusieurs mondes réels et virtuels révélés par la numérisation de notre société. Through the study of Daniel Glattauer's novel Gut gegen Nordwind (Love virtually, 2008) and Daniel Kehlmann's short story Ein Beitrag zur Debatte (A contribution to the debate, 2008), this paper seeks to analyse the way literature deals with the Internet and the social changes it induces. Gut gegen Nordwind narrates the e-mail relationship between Emmi and Leo, who fall in love without having ever met each other. This e-mail novel shows some similarities with the genre of the epistolary novel, but also distances itself from it. Thanks to performative writing, the protagonists create for themselves identities that are derive from the electronic dialogue but stand in sharp contrast with the identity they assume in the real world. The virtual is thus a heterotopy, whose borders the characters adamantly defend, since crossing them would mean the end of the love story. Ein Beitrag zur Debatte, a short story from the anthology Fame, imitates in a convincing way another form of virtual communication: the forum post. The narrator is here characterised as a geek who is addicted to virtual forums. Although fully correct from a technical point of view, the narrator's report is undermined by its stylistic properties, its loss of touch with reality, and its disconnection from the other stories of the collection. The short story is thus a caricature of the geek as well as a parody of a forum post, which demonstrates the inefficiency of this medium. The differences between the two approaches must be underlined. Whereas Kehlmann's short story provides a pessimistic view of the Internet Glattauer's novel offers a more nuanced understanding of the latter… However, these two texts, like many contemporary German publications, react to the same paradigm shift, i.e. the necessity of dealing simultaneously with several real and virtual worlds which bespeak the digitalisation of our society.
