L'auteur examine la place des femmes musulmanes dans la vie religieuse algérienne et de façon plus générale dans la société algérienne, dans une perspective socio-historique et anthropologique. Après une revue de la littérature qui met en évidence l'importance des femmes dans la sphère religieuse des premiers siècles de l'islam, l'auteur montre que celles-ci, progressivement marginalisées, ont investi le mysticisme comme lieu d'expression de leur rapport au divin. S'appuyant sur un travail de terrain qu'elle a effectué dans l'ouest algérien, elle décrit et analyse les formes et les modalités d'implication de ces femmes dans l'univers du mysticisme maghrébin, le sens qu'elles donnent à leurs pratiques, leurs effets sur leur position dans la société. The author studies the position of women within the algerian religious life and more broadly their position within the algerian society, with a socio-historical and anthropological approach. After a state of arts which shows the importance of women in the religious sphere of early islam, the author demonstrates that women, who were progressively marginalized, have invested mysticism as the locus of the expression of their relationship with the divine. Referring to a fieldwork that she conducted in western Algeria, she describes and analyses the forms and the ways of the implication of these women in the world of mahgrebian mysticism, the sense they give to their practices, the effects of their practices on their position in the society.
