L'augmentation continue du nombre de Français s'installant à l'étranger suscite d'intenses débats sur la signification réelle de ce mouvement sans précédent dans l'histoire du pays. Dans un contexte de french bashing, certains veulent y voir le signe du déclin français, provoqué ou aggravé par l'incapacité du pays à se réformer. D'autres, au contraire, considèrent qu'il s'agit d'un des aspects de la compétition mondiale pour les talents, d'un certain rattrapage français par rapport à ses voisins européens. L'article plaide pour une voie médiane où cette expatriation devienne une chance pour les entreprises françaises s'internationalisant et pour que se développe un esprit de diaspora propice à la promotion de la France dans le monde. The continuous increase of the number of French settling down abroad is generating intense debates on the real meaning of this unprecedented movement in the history of the country. In a context of French bashing, some people want to see the sign of the French decline there, caused or worsened by the incapacity of the country to reform itself. Others, on the contrary, consider that it is about one of the aspects of the world competition for the talents, about a certain French catching up with regard to his European neighbors. The article pleads for a median way where this expatriation becomes a chance for the French companies internationalizing and so that develops a spirit of Diaspora convenient to the promotion of France in the world.
