La traduction anglaise de la seule première partie d'Über den Standort der Industrien a concouru à façonner l'image d'un Alfred Weber néoclassique. D. Gregory a tenté de prendre en compte l'ensemble des travaux de ce dernier sur la localisation pour dénoncer une violence interprétative, mais a proposé une lecture réductrice, en termes d'epistemological break. Le projet de Weber était d'emblée sociologique et participait aux tentatives de son frère Max et de son ami Sombart : lier l'approche abstraite des classiques anglais à celle plus inductive des historicistes allemands et articuler l'économique au socioculturel. Les questions que se pose actuellement la géographie économique sur le statut de l'embeddedness de l'économique dans le social confèrent à cette démarche un nouvel intérêt. A reappraisal of Alfred Weber's work concerning location. Articulating economic and sociocultural aspects The English translation of only the first part of Über den Standort der Industrien helped to shape a neoclassical image of Alfred Weber. D. Gregory has attempted to take into account the whole of the author's work concerning location, in order to denounce an “interpretative violence”, but has made a far too simplistic interpretation in terms of an epistemological break. The project of Weber was socio-logical in nature from the beginning and it participated in the attempts of his brother Max and of his friend Sombart : to link the abstract approach of the classical English economists to the more inductive approach of the German Historical School and also articulate economic and sociocultural dimensions.
