Au milieu du XIXe siècle, en amont de Nantes, la simplification du cours de la Loire armoricaine était réalisée pour l'essentiel. Au xviii siècle, les apports sédimentaires importants favorisés par des crues nombreuses facilitaient le renouvellement des formes. L'exhaussement du lit a permis l'appropriation d'abord illégale d'une partie des marges du chenal de navigation (cultures textiles et maraîchage). Puis la rivalité entre agriculteurs et navigants s'est apaisée par la fixation juridique et technique du fleuve. Son endiguement précède un approfondissement du chenal (fin XIXe siècle) et un appauvrissement sédimentaire. Au XXe siècle une certaine diversité dans le style fluvial persiste. Mais la mise en place d'un chenal de navigation puis les opérations de dragage du lit mineur aggravent le déséquilibre hydro-morphologique. Source : Éditeur (via Persée) |

The first major correction in the channel pattern of the Armorican Loire was completed upstream of Nantes in the middle of the XIXth century. In the XVIIIth century numerous large floods resulted in widespread aggradation and had consequences also through significant changes of the channel pattern. This aggradation permitted the illegal appropriation of land on the channel margins for the cultivation of textile fibers and farm crops. The tension between farmers and inland navigators was appeased by a judicial and technical fixation of the channel banks. The channel embankment was followed by channel deepening (end of the xixth century) and a decrease of sediment transport. In the xxth century a certain diversity in the structure of the bed still existed. However, channel fixation and river entrenchment accelerate the hydro-morphological desequilibrium.
