Dans l'historiographie de la RDA, les travaux inspirés par le concept d'Eigensinn se sont focalisés sur les groupes sociaux dominés. Les agents de l'État, assimilés aux dominants, n'ont pas fait l'objet d'études inspirées de ce cadre d'analyse qui insiste sur la distance au rôle, les esquives ou le maintien d'un quant à soi dans un environnement de travail caractérisé par une multitude de dispositifs disciplinaires. S'appuyant sur l'exemple des agents municipaux chargés de l'attribution de logements, la première partie de l'article cherche à établir la valeur heuristique d'une telle approche dans un environnement bureaucratique. Après avoir restitué dans une deuxième partie les conditions rendant possible le déploiement de logiques autres que bureaucratiques, l'article aborde la question du rapport à la hiérarchie construit sur des tactiques de maintien de l'opacité et de la production d'une distanciation conforme. Le prisme de l'Eigensinn permet enfin de saisir comment ces formes de distanciation peuvent paradoxalement contribuer à la stabilisation du régime. Source : Éditeur (via Cairn.info) |

Bureaucratic Eigensinn in the GDR: Role Distanciation and Autonomy in Administrative Practice. In historical research on the GDR, the concept of Eigensinn has been nearly exclusively used as a tool to study dominated social groups. As a result, State bureaucrats have fallen outside the scope of this framework of study which insists on role detachment, avoidance, and the maintaining of a sense of self in contexts characterized by strong hierarchical or disciplinary forces. By taking the example of municipal state agents in charge of administering housing, the first part of the article will seek to ascertain the heuristic value of applying this sort of approach to bureaucratic environments. After having retraced in the second part the conditions which make the deployment of non-bureaucratic rationales in a bureaucracy possible, the article will look at the tactical deployment of opacity and the production of detached conformity in hierarchical relationships. Finally, using Eigensinn as a prism, we will see how these forms of distanciation and administrative autonomy could have paradoxically contributed to the stabilization of the regime.
